Breaking Glass Barefoot (Biography)

Available: 11 October 2012

Hazel's first, full autobiography, which captures all the ups and downs of a life of adventure and trauma, sadness and celebrity; which speaks to anyone who has ever followed their heart.

This is a story not just of the music business, its intense joys and spectacular lows: it is the story of a beautiful teenage runaway, a soldier's daughter who fought her own battles and those of people she cared for.

This amazing story covers her career as both a musician and actress through the past thirty years that has also included encounters with David Bowie, Tony Visconti, Duran Duran, Jesse Birdsall and Neil Morrissey amongst others. Hazel was even driven around Ireland during her early career by a young Louis Walsh; played Boggle with Bob Geldof and taught Elton John to balance a spoon on the end of his nose! The press even described her as George Michael's girlfriend!

Hazel's career has been a roller coaster ride and has included fascinating friendships, and relationships with The Stranglers' Hugh Cornwell, and Ultravox's Midge Ure.

This is a story not just of the music business, its intense joys and spectacular lows: it is the story of a beautiful teenage runaway, a soldier's daughter who fought her own battles and those of people she cared for.

Released in 1980, Breaking Glass is the cult movie that helped to define the post-punk, pre-new wave era. The soundtrack features such classics as 'Will You?', 'Eighth Day', 'Give Me An Inch' and 'Writing On The Wall'.

Hazel O'Connor gives the performance of a lifetime as Kate who learns the hard way that fame comes with strings. Starting out as a bottle-blonde post-punk ranter, fly-posting gig publicity on London's tube trains and yelling songs over fascist chants in rowdy pubs, she ends up as a stoned glam zombie dressed as a robot, packaging her anger for the benefit of manipulative music business executives. Phil Daniels stars as the grasping manager who finds himself out of his depth, and Jon Finch plays the manipulative record producer who comes between him and Kate. Jonathan Pryce makes an early screen appearance as Kate's sensitive but drug-addicted saxophonist.
